6 Events Plus 1 Week Equals a Great Staff!

Last month, the Frank Erwin Center hosted a variety of events from all areas of the spectrum. From commencement ceremonies and family shows, to country-pop stars and rock ‘n’ roll legends—there was a lot going on here. Within the course of one week, we had two full days of college commencement ceremonies, Scooby-Doo, Taylor Swift and two Paul McCartney shows! Although a diverse group of people including celebrities, promoters, fans and college graduates walked in and out of our doors, one thing remains constant—our excellent staff and their dedication to this building. Behind the scenes, it takes a tremendous amount of work and effort to put on a show—especially world tours. To put on shows of this caliber, each department must work diligently and collectively to ensure all expectations are met. It takes a great amount of teamwork and collaboration to successfully plan, organize, market and implement a show. Without the help from all our departments here at the Frank Erwin Center, we would not be able to provide Austin and Central Texas with live entertainment and lasting memories like we have been doing for the last 35 years.

Working in the event industry is a lot of fun, but it is definitely a lot of work. Each department within the arena plays a very important role in carrying out each show. From the box office, events department, marketing department, technical services department, administrative office, business office, IT department, and our food and beverage company Sodexo, we all carry out our duties and responsibilities and put in long hours. To me, the most rewarding feeling is working on a show from beginning to end, seeing the crew load-in and finally watching the show come together live and looking into the crowd of cheering fans who are creating memories with their friends and family. With all the hard work and long hours we put in, the end result it pretty rewarding and amazing.

We truly have the most dedicated and hard-working staff around town. Every spring, we host our annual Breakfast of Champions for our staff here in the building to thank them for their continued support and dedication to UT Athletics. This year, we honored people who have been with UT Athletics for 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 years! To our staff, thank you for all that you do – you all are truly admirable and it would be impossible to do what we do without everyone’s help. Here’s to another great year of live entertainment!
