Celebrating Labor Day

It’s the beginning of September and the start of a new school year, which means Austin traffic is at an all-time high, children are out of the house and back in school (yes!) and summer vacation has officially ended (sigh). However, we still have one more holiday to relish in and take advantage of… Happy Labor Day! Labor Day, which is observed on the first Monday in September, constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity and well-being of our country. Although the first Labor Day celebration was held on Tuesday, Sept. 5, 1882, in New York City, it wasn’t officially declared a holiday until 1894 (according to the U.S. Department of Labor.)

In honor of this special holiday, we at the Frank Erwin Center are celebrating our contributions to bringing live entertainment to Austin in more ways than one. Here are a few activities our staff have planned for this Labor Day:

  • Relaxing by the pool
  • Catching up on a favorite TV series
  • Fishing at the lake
  • Working in the yard
  • Picnic at the park
  • Reading a good book
  • BBQ with friends
  • Mini family reunion to show off the new backyard “man-cave”

If you do not have any definite plans, here are a couple things happening today around town:
