Clowning Around in Austin

Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey Presents Dragons - August 21-25, 2013 - Frank Erwin Center - Photo from RBBB

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey® Presents DRAGONSSM is coming to the Frank Erwin Center, and they are back with an exciting new show filled with mystic dragon lore, authentic circus feats and all new spellbinding acts! Although Ringling Bros.® are bringing a brand new show to town, many classic circus acts will return once more – and that includes Ringling Bros.® Clown Alley! Ringling Bros. Clown Alley has a long history of Clown acts; most memorably Lou Jacobs and Emmett Kelly. Jacobs was a clown for over 60 years and earned the title as world’s most famous clown. Kelly, a pantomime clown, could elicit laughs with the slightest raise of an eyebrow and was known for his ‘Weary Willie’ character.

Clowns are instantly recognizable because of their bizarre cone shaped heads, big shoes, elaborate oversized clothing, arching eyebrows and brightly colored face paint. Read below to learn more about the individuals that make Ringling Bros. Clown Alley so entertaining.

Sandor Eke

Sandor attended the Hungarian State Circus School and has a passion for circus life. His inspiration for unique humor comes from his ultimate hero Batman, and comedian Rowan Atkinson’s clumsy character, Mr. Bean. Not only has Sandor been awarded a prestigious place in Ringling Bros., he is also in charge of overseeing all of the clowns and acts as a mentor to new and returning clowns.

Fun Fact: Sandor’s favorite thing about Ringling Bros. is the opportunity to work with elephants, even though he enjoys returning home every day to his dog, Rachel.

Kelliann Karsten

Kelliann loves to make people laugh, and makes it her mission to put smiles on people’s faces. When she moved to San Francisco from her native New York, she joined an all-female sketch comedy group where she gained experience in writing, performing, directing and producing. After she left the group, she attended the Clown Conservatory Circus Center to pursue her dream of being a clown and graduated in 2008.

Fun Fact: After she joined Ringling Bros. Kelliann met and fell in love with her husband, Wages Argott. He is the trumpet player and assistant conductor for the show.

Henry Higinio

Unlike most circus performers, Henry did not come from a circus family background and didn’t pursue circus life until after he attained a bachelor’s degree in Marketing. Henry grew up in Lima, Peru and had worked in the entertainment business. As a clown, he draws his life inspiration from his father, whom he says is his hero, and his clown inspiration from the comic Charlie Chaplin.

Fun Fact: Henry’s favorite thing about Ringling Bros. is the freedom it gives him to travel to so many places and bring smiles to people’s faces. He says “Always look ahead and never behind. Dreams and perseverance are a powerful combination.”

Don’t miss out on all the laughs when Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey® Presents DRAGONSSM makes a stop at the Frank Erwin Center Aug. 21–25!
