It’s Flashback Friday and today we are reminiscing on artists who graced our stage throughout the month of January. Can you guess which artists are pictured in our collage? Here’s some help and a little bit of nostalgia for you. Pictured from left to right:
Recently honored with the 2013 Billboard Icon Award, this Grammy award-winning artist brought his “Purple Rain Tour” to Austin Jan. 29-30, 1985. This actually marked the first two-night concert run at the Frank Erwin Center. Check out his performance of the 1985 classic “Let’s Go Crazy” at the 2013 Billboard Awards.
Austinites experienced a night of metal mayhem Jan. 23, 1987 when Iron Maiden brought the “Somewhere on Tour.” As pioneers of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, the band has become one of the most successful metal bands in history. Here’s one of Iron Maiden’s most popular songs you probably would have heard live in concert during the 1980s.
Known for his “island” like music, Jimmy Buffett sure knows how to get a party started. On Jan. 22, 1990 he brought his “Off to See the Lizard Tour” to Austin. Even if you’re not a Parrothead (a term for fans of Jimmy Buffett) you have definitely heard this legendary song. Cheers!
This British rock band achieved worldwide fame in the early 2000s. The band’s success quickly skyrocketed and they brought the “A Rush of Blood to the Head Tour” to Austin Jan. 29, 2003. Let’s take a journey back to 2003 with the hit song “Clocks” which was featured in many commercials, movies and television shows.
