November 4TH, 2016, is a day that I will always remember. Adele was so incredible and she was so close to us, It was such an awesome, almost like a dream, girls weekend with my BFF
PS. I had 2 really incredible shows at Frank Erwin last year when I also saw Rihanna, I have never been able to have the awesome seats I had there, here at home.
Congrats on your 40th, Frank Erwin Center! Here’s to more great memories
Congratulations on 40 years! I was an usher there around 1978-1980. Saw some great concerts and got paid (very little) to do it!
I went to see New Kids on the Block with my mom, two of my friends, and their moms in 1991. My mom and I were in the fifth row and I was so excited. They shot off confetti at the end that I put in my purse and kept for about ten years. Happy Anniversary, Frank!!
Making memories with my daughter from Adele to Taylor Swift concerts and many more to come! Congrats on 40 years!
My hubby and i where there to see Tom Petty in 2012 and now we’re going back to see him in May. Can’t Wait. I love the place. We come from San Antonio Tx.
Congrats on your 40th Frank Erwin Center!
I stared working there in my high school years at the age 17 and stayed there till I was 22. I worked the concession stand. Then moved up to red shirt in charge of stands and poped all the popcorn for the concert event and sports event. I worked black and white serving on special occasions. I saw every concert there and basketball games and even the circus. I would’t trade the memories for anything.
Thanks Frank Ewin Center Happy 40th.
I’ve had the opportunity to have seen plenty of sports and music from The WWE, University of Texas Men’s and Women’s BB, Harlem Globetrotters, Kings of Comedy Tour(that was special Brooks & Dunn, Dixie Chicks, Kenny Chesney, Clay Walker, and Alan Jackson…with all that said, Happy 40th Anniversary FEC!
I remember the first concert I ever saw was at the Erwin Center. The Boston concert in 1979. The memory I still have is taking food up to a friend of ours, John G., who volunteered to camp out in a tent under one of the ramps there for a week to get tickets. He was in a tent at night, for a week. It was very cold outside. Every time we visited, we heard Boston playing via a cassette tape in a campsite next to his. Towards the end of the week, the tape player’s batteries was low and the cassette had a musical drag to it. Funny stuff. Think it’s interesting how far we have come with purchasing tickets, and jamming to music, within the last 40 years. Many great memories there at the Frank Erwin center!
I have so many wonderful memories of Frank Erwin Center. Over the last 22 years, I’ve cheered on UT Basketball as a student and now an alumnus. I laughed so hard at a comedy show that I actually had an asthma attack (unfortunately that comedian has had a hard fall from grace). I’ve seen so many amazing concerts – Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift, Neil Diamond, Kenny Chesney, IHeart Country Festival, Tim McGraw, to name a few! I’ve been blessed to be part of the National High School Football Association Scholarship dinners. Happy 40th! I will really miss The Drum when they take it away!
There so many favorites moments that I had at Frank Erwin Center that I don’t have a favorite one because they were all great! From Rihanna, Adele, to Selena Gomez and many more! I haven’t had any disappointment when it comes to events and concerts at #ErwinCenter40. Congratulations, happy 40th anniversary, and let’s get 40 more years! #ErwinCenter40
The BIG Round Donut glows beautifully at night right DownTown Austin! Thanks for the beautiful memories!
I’ve been to so many events at Frank Erwin Center, since I grew up in Austin. I have many fond memories. Probably my most nostalgic would be Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus, Disney On Ice and Rick James and The Mary Jane Girls. As an adult, It might be Tosh.Show On Campus or NKOTB The Total Package Tour, we shall see! Happy 40th and will be sad to see you go when the time comes.
My father took us to see a UT basketball game at the Erwin Center when we were kids. The venue had just been built and the game was free. While I was still a kid my father also took me, on my birthday, to see the Harlem Globetrotters. As we grew up we went to many concerts there. Olivia-Newton John, followed by AC/DC in 1983. ZZ-Top, Heart with John Cougar, Billy Squire, Pink Floyd. Then, in our later 20s and perhaps a little strange in this progression, Better Midler. I moved away for a while but I’m back now. So… who to see……….
I should note that when I moved back I had gained a wife and child. We took her to the Erwin Center to see a Disney extravaganza. I also worked there briefly in teh catering department and donned a paper hat to sell pretzels at a Sade concert.
I went to my first concert at the Frank Erwin Center to see Tina Turner and Mr. Mister back in the 80s. I’ll never forget traveling to Austin and just falling in love with the city. The excitement in the arena as the lights dimmed and the roar of the crowd as the artists came onto the stage. I fell in love with Austin even more. So, in 87 I moved to Austin and was lucky enough to get a job with UT Austin. Over 29 years later I’m still an Austinite, still a Longhorn and still love concerts at the Frank Erwin Center!
Thanks for the memories FEC!
Hook ’em!!! \m/
I saw Panic! at the Disco on April 2, 2017. Probably the most stressful concert I’ve been to because I was involved with a project that pulled off the colors you see in the picture I’ve attached, haha! SO WORTH IT! Thank you to the Frank Erwin staff who were so helpful in our initiative
(The concert itself was amazing, by the way!)
Congratulations on 40 years! I have many memories at the Erwin Center. I started working there in August 1985 as a computer nightrun operator while attending UT. I was able to attend several concerts and the experiences will always be something I remember. Thanks for the memories!
I first went to the Frank Erwin Center and saw Tina Turner for the Private Dancer Tour (85) and fell in love with the venue, Austin and fell in love with the city. Since then I’ve seen Tina again several times, fortunate to have seen Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Kenny Chesney, Reba, Dolly, Paula Abdul, New Kids on the Block,….. as you can tell many concerts at the FEC over the years. Congrats on the 40 years!!! Where are the tshirts or posters – I’d like to buy one. Where will you all be relocating to???
Thanks a million! We have had some go times here. Drumstrong.
Have seen George Strait there twice
Born and raised in Austin. I remember when it was being built, but my 1st concert wasn’t until I was 15 and then I never stopped. From concerts to UT basketball games and Graduations. Its one of my favorite Austin landmarks that is STILL truly Austin. Its always one of the stops on the tour when my friends visit Austin for the 1st time.
John Melloncamp Motley Crue (2ice) Kool and the Gang New Kids On the Block John Mayer Shania Twain Janet Jackson (2ice)
Thanks For the memories Frank Erwin Center!!!
The very first concert I ever attended was to see George Strait at the Erwin Center!! It was awesome!!
My husband, Steve and I along with my sister Linda and her husband, Roger, have enjoyed every George Strait concert held at the Erwin Center. Linda’s son, Jason and his wife, Kim, joined us for one of the concerts and my daughter, Eva and my grandkids, Stephen and Ashley joined us at various times, also. We loved every minute of these concerts. My granddaughters, Ashley and Deborah, joined me to see Michael Buble. Another great concert. I gave my husband tickets to The Judds for his birthday. We were lucky enough to get tickets to see John Denver also. Exceptional concert. We stood in line in the freezing cold wind, rain and hot sun for the George Strait tickets. We also were lucky enough to get some of our tickets to his concerts through his fan club. We sat in a lot of different places for these concerts, but the sound was always of the best quality whether we were in the nosebleed section or actually center, 3rd row floor we were lucky enough to get for a George Strait concert. All in all we have enjoyed the Erwin Center many, many times over the last 40 years!
Saw George Strait there on his Cowboys Rides Away Tour. I am hoping to purchase tickets to see him at the anniversary celebration.
I remember seeing REM in 1992 (?) way up high in the nosebleed section and I had the flu a 104 degree fever and I thought I might die and I loved it
No! It was 1989!
