PRESALE: George Strait with special guest Jason Aldean

The King of Country is stopping by the Frank Erwin Center Friday, Jan. 10 on the second leg of his The Cowboy Rides Away Tour. Below, John Graham shares his thoughts on this special show and artist.

Texas and country music icon, George Strait, has played the Frank Erwin Center more than a dozen times over the years and each concert has been a sold out fan experience. Several years ago I was lucky enough to be a guest of George’s management crew, Erv Woolsey and Danny O’Brien, in San Antonio for the first ever George Strait Country Music Festival at the Alamodome. My good friend Louis Messina was involved in promoting the extravaganza and when I received an all-access backstage pass, I knew I was in for a great time. I continue to wear that pass on my lanyard every day at work and it helps remind me of what we do here. We create an experience that creates a memory for the fan – like the memories of the experience that I had at that first George Strait Country Music Festival.

In January, George Strait and his management team and Louis Messina with the Messina Group will bring the King of Texas to Austin. Another 16,000 plus fans will be on hand to experience the magic that is a live concert. They will create a memory of that experience that can be relived each time they hear a George Strait song on the radio. It will be a good memory.

8 ticket minimum ? Who buys 8 tickets all at once except for scalpers. And then you guys wonder why tickets shoot up to $300 the day of the event. Awesome.

  2. James · October 16, 2013

There are already 4,700 tickets to the concert for sale on Stubhub before the presale. No hope to get good seats without paying scalper prices.

  3. Anonymous · October 16, 2013

I tried to buy as a fan club member yesterday and guess what was left? Crap seats. But you can get the better seats at scalpers in the internet for upwards of $500 plus each. Absolutely ridiculous!! They should make the tickets no transferable and have to show the card used to buy them in order to get in like Tennessee is attempting to do. This is not fair to the true fans wishing to see him. It only profits the mafia, after all that is what scalpers are. And the ticket agencies don’t care because they make money either way. This is why the show keeps being advertised as sold out!!

I tried to buy Presale from American Express yesterday and they were all gone fast. Saw they were up on resale mkt already. Garth knew how to do it for his Vegas show. 4 tickets for each transaction max and had to put one name with set, non-transferable. Had to show ID that you were that person at show. This avoided scalpers.

Amen for Garth Brooks!! I am sick if the ridiculous scalpers. It’s not right nor is it fair. This has to stop.

I tried for 5 hours and as a truly dedicated fan in GS fan club for over 15 years and never once did I NOT get tickets until yesterday. I tried for over 4 hours and only got through once only to lose the tickets when I hit the purcahse button because TBO website kicked me back in to queue. Scalpers scalp the true fans here and it’s a shame there is no control over this. I agree with the above about tickets being non-transferrable.

I hate hearing the above. I will you know how I do today. Wish me luck

  7. noticketsforme · October 17, 2013

    I give up today too.

  8. Anonymous · October 17, 2013

Repeat just like Tuesday when they went on pre-sale to Fan Club members. Only means tomorrow it will be the same. I will try again but it looks like I may have to try for the Arlington show now! I think George needs to schedule a second show here in Austin for Saturday January 11th!!!!

  9. Michele · October 17, 2013

I have been trying since 10am and nothing is available. I just tried again and now the promotional code is not valid! I’m really annoyed!

  10. Anonymous · October 17, 2013

I keep entering the code king and says its invalid. Anyone know why?

  11. Angry Fan · October 17, 2013

I tried to buy tickets today using the promo code, spent nearly 3 hours online and no tickets available (they sold out). BUT, if I google George Strait, Austin, I see seatgeek as 4374 tickets available and stubhub has 3117. That is nearly half of the total venue seats of 16,755! I think Texas needs to join the other states who have stepped up and addressed this issue. Our society has gotten so greedy that ordinary middle class people cannot afford to go to a sporting or entertainment event anymore due to the high cost of tickets!!

  12. Anonymous · October 17, 2013

The promotional access code [KING] entered is invalid.

  13. Texan2thebone · October 17, 2013

I tried to get in the to order tickets and first, the system was down. Then it said the code was not valid. Such a CROCK! I called the Box Office and the guy basically told me well, that is tough.

  14. John · October 17, 2013

Sounds like someone at TBO needs to make a decision or the UT Frank Erwin center does? Limit it to a picture ID and it would indeed control it.

  15. Chelsea · October 17, 2013

Anyone else having problems using the presale code?

  16. Anonymous · October 18, 2013

This whole presale thing is a sham and then to even try to buy tickets on the first day of sale to the public is a sham as well. At 10 am the webiste will not allow entry, it just keeps spining saying you are in the “queue” and there you sit forever! Meanwhile tried calling on the phone to the box office and constantly busy, all this from 10:00 am to 10:05 am and then kept on trying just because I am “stupid” enough to think there might be a chance. HA. Whoever is responsible for allowing scalpers and their super computers to snatch up all the tickets before the real public has a chance needs to wakd up and put forth some law or legislation that makes scalping tickets illegal in Texas. Very disappointed in Frank Erwin Center and all those associated with bringing big stars here to Austin for this kind of treatment to the fans. Shame on all of you
