On Friday, Dec. 6, 2013 thousands of fans witnessed an unforgettable, encore-worthy night when John Mayer brought his Born and Raised World Tour to Austin. Special guest Phillip Phillips opened the show and set the tone of smooth sounds and ballads for the rest of the evening. Before the fans even entered the Frank Erwin Center, there were hours of preparation and hard work that went into putting on this three hour spectacle – and it was worth every second. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at the countdown to an evening filled with John Mayer’s wonderful guitar faces and toe-tapping tunes.
8 a.m. – Rise and shine! It’s time for the stage crew to mark up the arena floor.
9 a.m. – Not even the cold weather can stop John Mayer’s trucks from loading into the building. In total, there were eight trucks and six buses.
12 p.m.. – After three hours, all the trucks are loaded into the building.
2:30 p.m. – Time to set all 838 chairs on the arena floor.
4 p.m. – Sound check time! We can hear the music from our offices.
4:30 p.m. – It’s time to grab the photo passes from John Mayer’s tour management.
5 p.m. – People inside the arena are preparing for the doors to open. One hour away!
5:30 p.m. – Despite the icy chill in the air, the fans are patiently waiting outside.
6 p.m. – The doors are opened!
6:45 p.m. – A few lucky fans were able to meet John Mayer himself during a meet and greet!
7 p.m. – Phillip Phillips takes the stage…it’s going to be a long night in Austin!
7:30 p.m. – ERC staff snags a copy of the set-list. Come on John, let’s get this show on the road!
8:25 p.m. – The one and only John Mayer comes out singing “Queen of California”
10:20 p.m. – The show ends and thousands of fans are left wanting more John Mayer. Until next time!
