Saturday marked the kickoff of the 2014 Texas Football season with Fan Fest and the annual Orange-White Scrimmage and the Frank Erwin Center got an up close and personal view of all the excitement. Longhorn fans from all across Texas participated in UT traditions including photos with Bevo, Smokey the Cannon, Big Bertha and Hook ‘Em as they got revved up for the first opportunity to see the players play before the season opener on August 30 against North Texas. Running back Malcolm Brown rushed for 82 yards and, while quarterback Tyrone Swoopes threw for 229 yards and three touchdowns at the scrimmage to lead the Texas squad to a 38-14 win over the Longhorns squad. The Texas squad featured the first-team offense and No. 2 defense while the Longhorns was made up of the second-team offense and No. 1 defense.
The Orange-White Scrimmage was the first stop of the 2014 Comin’ on Strong Tour presented by DISH. The Tour is part of the introduction to the next chapter of UT Athletics, featuring coach Charlie Strong, his staff members, former Longhorn head coaches, senior UT administrators and UT letterwinners. Over the next month, Coach Strong will be present in each of the eleven Texas cities The Tour visits to meet with fans and give a special address. There will be tailgating, photo ops, autograph signings and appearances by special guests. Click here to see if tickets are still available in another city.
