Summer Camp, Then and Now

For many people, when they hear the words “summer” and “camp” put together, they are instantly transported back to their youth and their own summer camp memories. For others, scenes from “Dirty Dancing,” “Meatballs” or “Friday the 13th” quickly enter their minds. Either way, summer camp is a powerful term. For instance, do you recognize this quote?

“This one time, at band camp…”

Of course you do! You probably also know this song very, very well:

Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh

You can still find traditional summer camps where you sleep in cabins, sing by the fire and swim in the lake – but nowadays there are options tailor-made for even the pickiest of little campers. There are computer camps, academic camps, adventure camps, faith-based camps and there’s even a Harry Potter camp.

If you’re looking for something a little closer to home, The University of Texas Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will be hosting sport-specific camps this summer including one for each of the sponsored sports, sports medicine and athletic performance. Committed to excellence, UT’s camps are run by UT’s nationally renowned, highly decorated staffs who are dedicated to providing fundamental instructions within an exciting summer camp atmosphere.
