From a stand-up performance by Chris Tucker to the Broadway tour of “Priscilla Queen of the Desert” to The 6th Annual Lone Star Jam, Texas Performing Arts offers a month of eclectic live entertainment!
Actor and comedian Chris Tucker’s trademark style, incomparable delivery, impeccable comedic timing and signature voice makes him one of today’s premiere entertainers. Tucker will bring his stand-up show to Bass Concert Hall on Friday, May 3.
Early in his stand-up career, Tucker gained a reputation as one of the leading comics in the Los Angeles comedy circuit and was invited to participate in hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons’ “Def Comedy Jam” on HBO, where he became a frequent performer. In 1995, Tucker paired up with one of rap’s greatest, Ice Cube, in the cult classic movie, “Friday,” and then gave a remarkable performance alongside veteran actor Lorenz Tate in “Dead Presidents” that same year. Just two years later, Tucker landed co-starring roles in memorable films such as “Money Talks,” with Charlie Sheen; “The Fifth Element,” with action hero Bruce Willis and Quentin Tarantino’s “Jackie Brown.”
Beyond the popularity and notoriety of the previous years’ films, it was the 1998 blockbuster hit “Rush Hour” that amassed a global following to catapult Tucker to international stardom. “Rush Hour 2” and “Rush Hour 3,” both huge hits with audiences, further established Tucker as one of the greatest comedy actors of his generation.
Tucker appeared in the recently released film “Silver Linings Playbook,” directed by David O. Russell and starring Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro.

An international hit with over 500 dazzling, 2011 Tony® Award-winning costumes, “Priscilla Queen of the Desert” rolls into Bass Concert Hall May 8-12. This outrageously fun show tells the uplifting story of a trio of friends, on a road trip of a lifetime, who hop aboard a battered old bus searching for love and friendship in the middle of the Australian outback and end up finding more than they could ever have dreamed.
“Priscilla Queen of the Desert” features a hit parade of dance-floor favorites including “It’s Raining Men,” “Finally” and “I Will Survive.” The Hollywood Reporter says “Priscilla” is “funny and fabulous! Joyous entertainment with eye-popping visuals and unexpected heart!”
“Priscilla Queen of the Desert” is recommended for ages 13+ due to mature language and situations.
