Body slams, flying kicks and folding chairs? That sounds like WWE Monday Night Raw is coming back for another night of exciting live wrestling action at the Frank Erwin Center July 22! Once again, Austin WWE fans can see their favorite WWE Superstars and Divas perform live in the ring. Feel the pulse and roar of the crowd as Superstars like John Cena, Dolph Ziggler and CM Punk battle for victory and glory at WWE Monday Night Raw! Read below to learn more about these WWE favorites and their impressive wrestling careers before they take the ring.
After a long and arduous climb back to the top of the wrestling world, John Cena won back the WWE Championship at Wrestlemania 29 against The Rock, the very man who took the title away from Cena the previous year in 2012. Cena stands at an intimidating 6’1” and 251 pounds and has won 11 WWE Championships. He is known not only for being one of four wrestlers to win multiple Royal Rumbles but also for his far-reaching list of non-wrestling accomplishments. Starring in several Hollywood movies and even releasing his own rap album, “You Can’t See Me,” Cena is a perennial crowd favorite who is also active in the community, having granted over 300 wishes with the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Even though Cena has the face for Hollywood, the wrestler won’t hesitate to hit his doomed opponent with his potent finishing move, the “Attitude Adjustment.”
Dolph Ziggler could have been dealing with habeaus corpus and stare decisis after he was accepted to the Sandra Day O’Connor School of Law at Arizona State University. Instead, the future Heavyweight Champion made the switch from courtroom drama to professional wrestling after a successful WWE tryout impressed long-time scouts. It only seemed natural that Ziggler would make the transition to the WWE after his days as a collegiate wrestler at Kent State University, where he dominated the Mid-American Conference as the three-time All-MAC Champion in the 165 pound division. Fast-forward 10 years, and Ziggler has established himself as an elite WWE Superstar. After cashing in his “Money in the Bank,” briefcase—a contract that guarantees a match for one of the WWE World Titles at any time within one year – at the first Monday Night Raw following WrestleMania 29, Ziggler defeated the incumbent Alberto Del Rio to win the World Heavyweight Championship.
With the sixth longest WWE Championship reign of 434 days, CM Punk has acquired an extraordinary resume of victories and titles. The Chicago native became the 19th Triple Crown Champion by winning the World Heavyweight, World Tag Team and Intercontinental Championships in the fastest time ever of 203 days. He may not look like the typical WWE Superstar, but “The Second City Savior” has proven himself time and again why he is one of the best wrestlers today. Known for his straight edge lifestyle, CM Punk has embraced his role from multiple angles as both a hero and villain in the ring, often as a rebel against the leadership of WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon in his perpetual defiance against authority. Having to beat the odds throughout his career, CM Punk is a testament to how hard work, grit and determination can one day lead to becoming a WWE Superstar.
WWE Monday Night Raw has evolved tremendously since its first appearance at the Frank
Erwin Center decades ago, but one thing that has never changed is the passion of the fans. There is nothing quite like being in the live crowd for WWE Raw. Audiences make the show an extraordinary live experience that can’t be replicated through the TV screen, and the energy produces heart-pounding action as the intensity level rises in the ring. Whether it be chants of victory or boos from the crowd, July 22 promises to be a Monday Night Raw to remember.
