Austin Artists on the Rise – Carson McHone

Austin has birthed many talented musicians from genres all across the board. Willie Nelson, Gary Clark Jr., Spoon, Ghostland Observatory and Alejandro Escovedo are just a few Austin natives who are now world renowned. Austin is home to thousands of aspiring artists, looking to share their music with the world and we’re lucky enough to be able to integrate that homegrown talent into our events.

Carson McHone, a songwriter from Austin, Texas, “writes songs like her life depends on it” (Ray Wylie Hubbard), bringing an intelligence to alt-country that is both immediate and lyrical. She released her debut self-titled EP in 2013 and toured nationally and internationally in its support. It’s platforms like Soundcloud and social media that allow aspiring artists to get their music out there to a wider audience. Plus, with sites like www.upyourplays.com, gaining followers and listeners on Soundcloud may not be as tough as you initially thought.

She has shared the stage with Vince Gill, Ryan Bingham, Margaret Glaspy, Del McCoury Band, Charlie Mars, David Ramirez, Jerry Jeff Walker, Shakey Graves, Gary Clark Jr., among others. She was also featured on the Irish Live Music Series ‘Other Voices’, filmed in Austin Texas at Arlyn Studios.

McHone has recorded a new album in Nashville with producer Mike McCarthy (Spoon, Heartless Bastards, Patty Griffin) and performed last year at the 2017 Austin City Limits Music Festival and the 2017 Americana Music Festival. Other 2017 Festivals include Gas Fest, Neil Fest (in Austin and Dallas) and the SXSW Music Festival.

McHone will perform at the VIP Party at STRAIT TEXAS Frank Erwin Center’s 40th Anniversary Celebration featuring George Strait on June 3.
