Can you think back to a day at your job that you would refer to as magical? We’re lucky enough to get some days like that. When does that magic happen? When we get to witness people coming together for an amazing entertainment experience. It’s even better when we realize we are witnessing history.
After 40 years of concerts, family shows, sporting events and special events, it’s safe to say we’ve built a lot of amazing memories around this place, with more to come. We asked some of our staff to share their fondest memories.
What’s your favorite event you’ve attended since you started working at the Frank Erwin Center?
“This is like asking someone to pick their favorite child. I’ll have to pick the visit from the Dalai Lama. We’ve had many heads of state visit, but that was something else.”
Jimmy Earl, Director’s Office
“I’ve gotta say Sir Paul. It was magic. A sold out crowd singing ‘Hey Jude’ was pretty cool. But it’s a close call. Shaking hands with the Dalai Lama and Bill Clinton was pretty cool, too.”
Buzz Huber, Events
“I’m going to go with Stevie Wonder. He sang a song I had actually never heard before that had the entire arena in tears.”
James Thompson, Administration
“The Dalai Lama. Hands down. But, if i’m picking a basketball game the 1990 Arkansas game. It was so loud and there was a lot of excitement toward the end of the game. If we had won that game we’d have lost the building.”
John Graham, Director’s Office
“The Cure, because I love The Cure. They had three encores!”
Melissa Taylor, Marketing
“UFC is my favorite event. I think I loved the publicity work we got to do leading up to the event. We got to do a lot.”
Laura Bennett, Marketing
“Bob Dylan and Tom Petty. I had never seen either of them before and I didn’t have to work for this one so I got to really enjoy it.”
Steve McBride, Maintenance
“John Mayer was my favorite. I’ll always pick John Mayer. I’m going to see him again soon.”
Erin Ward, Box Office
